INVICTUS INVITATIONAL 2026

Information on HOW TO APPLY FOR THE INVICTUS INVITATIONAL

    What's the Process?

Invictus Leo is now accepting applications for our 2nd Invitational Championships. It is held at our largest event, the Lake Tahoe Camp (June 8-10 2026). This year, we are doing things a bit different so read carefully.

We are looking to have TWO weight categories this year (and thus, TWO champions to crown). However, this will be dependant on how many applications we receive and the weight of the applicants. If we get 12 people at 180 lbs and one person at 230 lbs, we will only run one category. So, encourage people to apply.

Competitors must be purple belt level and above. Black belts will have priority when we select competitors. Last years we had 7 black belts and 1 (very game) Purple belt.

    When and Where

The Invictus Invitational will be held over three days at the Lake Tahoe Law Enforcement Camp June 8/9/10 2026. We are now accepting applications until March 1 2026. They can be emailed to info@invictusleo.com

The matches will be refereed by professionals and judged (if need be) by experienced instructors. It will be an 8 man tourney (per category). It's an elimination format meaning, winners will move on to fight.

    Requirements:

The following persons may apply for the Invitational:

    • Law Enforcement (active) or Retired Law Enforcement. (including Federal, Military, Municipal, County, State or Corrections) OR Civilian Defensive Tactics Instructors (will be verified and vetted)
    • There will be 2 Weight Categories depending on how many applications we receive. Example: 175 lbs and 230 lbs (and within 20lbs)
    • This is a NOGI event: Shorts or spats and rash guards
    • The Invictus Invitational is an 8 man tournament, elimination round. You will compete one match per day: first round (June 8), semis (June 9), finals (June 10). Mathes start at 12 Noon each day!
    • You must be signed up to the Tahoe Camp to be eligible to compete. If you are chosen, we will give you a discount of $150 off regular price

    RULE SET FOR THE INVITATIONAL

    Format:

    • All matches will be 10 minutes long with a 5 minute overtime if necessary.
    • The first 5 minutes will be submission only, no points will be awarded.
    • At the 5 minute mark, if there has been no submission,  the scoring table will announce “Points!”, at which time points will begin being awarded to competitors.
    • Overtime will consist of 5 minutes. In OT, pulling guard results in a 1 point deduction. At the end of overtime, if the match is still tied, ref will confer with the scoring table and decide a winner.
    •  The point system is loosely based on the IBJJF No Gi Adult BB rule set.
    • Slams will be allowed as long as they are in the context of a takedown. Slams will not be allowed to avoid a submission, or to open a guard, etc..
    • Advantages will not be scored, points only.

    Scoring:

    • Points are awarded for achieving and maintaining specific positions for at least 3 seconds.
    • Takedowns: 2 points.
    • Sweeps: 2 points.
    • Knee on Belly: 2 points.
    • Guard Pass: 3 points.
    • Mount: 4 points.
    • Back Mount: 4 points.

    Illegal Moves:

    • Stalling: Competitors will receive one warning before points will be deducted for stalling. Each deduction will be 1 point. 3 deductions will result in the competitor being disqualified.
    • Stalling will be defined as such: a competitor not actively pursuing positional progression or attempting submissions, effectively holding a position without making any effort to improve their situation or advance the match.
    • Lack of Combativeness: Stalling is characterized by a lack of active engagement and a clear unwillingness to pursue positional advantages or submissions.
    • Not Pursuing Positional Progression: A competitor who is not actively working to improve their position or escape a disadvantageous position is considered stalling.

    Penalties

    • Excessive Taping: Excessive taping of hands, wrists, and feet is not allowed.
    • Solid Knee Braces: Knee braces cannot have a solid portion that could result in injury.

    Weigh Ins:

    • All Competitors will be required to meet weigh in rules. Any competitor who does not make weight will be automatically disqualified.
