INVICTUS INVITATIONAL: Battle for TOP COP

Information on the Invitational

When and Where

The Invictus Invitational will be held over three days at the Lake Tahoe Law Enforcement Camp July 21/22/23 2025. We are now accepting applications until April 20 2025. The can be emailed to info@invictusleo.org.


The matches will be refereed by professionals and judged (if need be) by experienced instructors. The matches will also be STREAMED live.

Requirements:

The following persons may apply for the Invitational:

  • Full time Law Enforcement (active) or Retired Law Enforcement. (including Federal, Military, Municipal, County, State or Corrections.)
  • The Weight limit is 205 lbs and under (modified open weight)
  • This is a NOGI event.
  • The Invictus Invitational is an 8 man tournament, elimination round. You will compete one match per day: first round (July 21), semis (July 22), finals (July 23). Mathes start at 12 Noon each day!
  • You must be signed up to the Tahoe Camp to be eligible to compete.

How to Apply?

You will need to email us at info@invictusleo.org the following:

  • Full Name
  • Date of Birth (age)
  • LEO status: Active or Retired
  • Your home agency (or last one you worked at)
  • Rank
  • Competition History and notable accomplishments (important)
  • Where you live
  • Your Home Gym
  • Send a picture of yourself


In order to make this competitive and fair, we need all the information above. Failure to meet these requirements will result in your application not being considered.

PRizes

In order to compete, you need to sign up to the Invictus Lake Tahoe Camp. The Invitational is an additional event we are holding at the camp. It is meant to showcase law enforcement competitors. The winner of the Invitational will receive 

  • $500 cash for the winner
  • Bragging rights on being the first Invictus Champion
  • The Invictus Champion Belt!

RULE SET FOR THE INVITATIONAL

Format:

  • All matches will be 10 minutes long with a 5 minute overtime if necessary.
  • The first 5 minutes will be submission only, no points will be awarded.
  • At the 5 minute mark, if there has been no submission,  the scoring table will announce “Points!”, at which time points will begin being awarded to competitors.
  • Overtime will consist of 5 minutes. In OT, pulling guard results in a 1 point deduction. At the end of overtime, if the match is still tied, ref will confer with the scoring table and decide a winner.
  •  The point system is loosely based on the IBJJF No Gi Adult BB rule set. 
  • Slams will be allowed as long as they are in the context of a takedown. Slams will not be allowed to avoid a submission, or to open a guard, etc..
  • Advantages will not be scored, points only.


Scoring:

  • Points are awarded for achieving and maintaining specific positions for at least 3 seconds.
  • Takedowns: 2 points.
  • Sweeps: 2 points.
  • Knee on Belly: 2 points.
  • Guard Pass: 3 points.
  • Mount: 4 points.
  • Back Mount: 4 points.


Illegal Moves:

  • Stalling: Competitors will receive one warning before points will be deducted for stalling. Each deduction will be 1 point. 3 deductions will result in the competitor being disqualified.
  • Stalling will be defined as such: a competitor not actively pursuing positional progression or attempting submissions, effectively holding a position without making any effort to improve their situation or advance the match. 
  • Lack of Combativeness: Stalling is characterized by a lack of active engagement and a clear unwillingness to pursue positional advantages or submissions. 
  • Not Pursuing Positional Progression: A competitor who is not actively working to improve their position or escape a disadvantageous position is considered stalling. 


Penalties

  •  Going Out of Bounds to Avoid a Submission: Leaving the mat to avoid a submission will result in a 1 point deduction. 3 deductions will result in the competitor being disqualified.
  • No cervical neck cranks
  • Slams are only allowed in the context of a takedown. Slams used to avoid a submission, open a guard, etc… are illegal and will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Unsportsmanlike conduct: Talking to the ref during the match, trash talking your opponent during match, striking your opponent (including clubbing disguised as a collar tie). Competitors will receive only one warning for aggressive collar ties (refs determination). 
  • Excessive Taping: Excessive taping of hands, wrists, and feet is not allowed. 
  • Solid Knee Braces: Knee braces cannot have a solid portion that could result in injury. 


Weigh Ins:

  • All Competitors will be required to weigh in day of competition on day 1. Competitors will be required to be at 205 lbs or lower. After Day 1, no more weigh ins will be conducted. Any competitor who does not make weight will be automatically disqualified.
  • Rules meeting will happen 30 min prior to 1st match. This will be the last opportunity for any questions or clarifications.  

Other:

  • Attire will be rash guard or tee shirt and shorts and/or spats
